Christopher R. Butler is an associate at Hahn Loeser where he focuses his practice on intellectual property and business law matters. He began his career in 2009 when he joined Hahn Loeser as a legal intern while attending Miami University. Throughout his time with the Firm, Chris has grown to appreciate the intricacies and challenges of complex intellectual property matters such as preparing and prosecuting patent, trademark, and copyright applications, drafting both clearance and patentability reports and opinions, and analyzing the infringement of patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
Chris’ experience also includes the drafting and negotiation of licensing and technology transfer agreements as well as representing clients in both patent and trademark litigation matters.
Recognizing his passion for how intellectual property law issues often affect antitrust and corporate, and litigation matters, Chris earned his MBA in 2016. As a result of the combination of his technical, legal, and business backgrounds, Chris is able to offer unique insights to his clients with respect to how intellectual property assets influence brand awareness and identity, affect financial and purchasing decisions, and further shape the organizational strategy of a business.
Chris works closely with his clients to develop comprehensive intellectual property portfolios consisting of multiple layers of protection, which may include utility and/or design patents, federal and/or state trademark registrations, copyright registrations, and trade secret protection. Through thoughtful consideration of the needs and goals of each specific client, Chris creates a personalized protection plan for each client’s portfolio with an eye toward furthering each individual client’s specific business goals.
