Daniel Kim is Of Counsel in Hahn Loeser’s Chicago office and is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice area. Daniel handles a wide range of matters, including complex patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and commercial litigation, patent and trademark prosecution, intellectual property and business transactions, and licensing. His practice also includes appellate advocacy, opinion work, regulatory analysis, due diligence, compliance, and counseling involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and corporate entities.

With a degree in biomedical engineering and experience running his own business, Daniel has worked with clients from different countries and industries in a variety of technologies including mechanical, biomedical, and electrical engineering, material science, software, design, and pharmaceuticals. He has advised clients on cross-border matters including trademark disputes, settlement negotiations, technology consortium, and protection of intellectual property in mergers and acquisitions.

Daniel’s prior research experience includes BioMEMS devices, biopolymer synthesis and drug delivery applications, biomedical devices and systems design, diagnosis and treatment of conditions and disease involving the brain, among others. Notably, BioMEMS devices relate to microfabricated devices that are essentially labs-on-chips designed on a silicon wafer, a type of semiconductor. Biopolymer synthesis primarily involves DNA and gene sequencing and relevant vector polymerase chain reaction and amplification techniques.

Daniel also has significant experience representing pharmaceutical companies in patent infringement actions in connection with regulatory approval processes for generic drug products under the Hatch-Waxman Act.

Daniel clerked for Magistrate Judge Young B. Kim in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
