“The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA),” Cheri Michel, Paralegal

In November 2010, the Department of Justice (DOJ) seized 82 domain names that the Attorney General’s Office claimed were engaged in trademark and copyright infringing activities. The DOJ was able to seize these domains by using Senate Bill S.3804, the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA). The legality of this action is in question, however, in addition to the bill’s long-term effects if passed into law.
