Hahn Loeser partner Sonja C. Rice was selected by Crain’s Cleveland Business as one of the 2023 Women of Note in recognition of her professional and civic accomplishments. Each year since 1997, Crain’s Cleveland Business honors a group of extraordinary women whose leadership, work, and dedication enrich Northeast Ohio’s institutions, communities, and people.
Rice was one of 12 honorees in 2023 and the only recipient from a law firm. The honorees included entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators who have made a difference in their workplaces, their industries, and their communities.
Chair of the Hahn Loeser’s Women’s Leadership Initiative, and member of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Rice is a member of the Firm’s Business Law and Construction Law practice groups. She counsels clients in commercial transactions and the development and negotiation of a wide variety of commercial contracts, including master services agreements, supply chain and manufacturing agreements, distributor and warehousing agreements, product development agreements, professional services contracts, intellectual property development and licensing agreements, and facilities management and real estate service outsourcing agreements. Rice has significant experience in the development and negotiation of construction contracts at all levels and the resolution of construction-related disputes. She is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics and regularly leads seminars for clients, focusing on the negotiation of contract terms and conditions and construction project contracts.
The Crain’s feature on Rice notes that she has served on the Asian American Bar Association of Ohio’s Board of Trustees since 2007. She has a passion for pets and has performed extensive pro bono attorney services for a local animal shelter. Rice also considered a career as a professional pianist, studying classical piano at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
