In October 2008, former President George W. Bush signed into law the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2008. The Act increases penalties for trademark and copyright counterfeiting, expands government power to seize property in criminal infringement matters, and establishes an IP Czar to improve coordination among federal agencies.
