Angela L. Simmons represents employers in all aspects of labor and employment counseling, compliance, and litigation issues. She is experienced in handling litigation, including trial work, under Title VII, the ADEA, ADA, FLSA, Ohio workers’ compensation claims, wrongful termination claims, breach of contract and non-compete agreements. She is also experienced in preparing position statements to respond to EEOC and state agency charges; and routinely counsels and provides training for employers regarding unlawful harassment, independent contractor issues, and social media legal risks.
Ms. Simmons serves as a Commissioner for the Cuyahoga County Human Resource Commission, an independent body, which is a product of the new Cuyahoga County Charter (Cleveland OH). As one of three Commissioners, Ms. Simmons oversees the creation and administration of employment policies regarding job classifications and audits, employee discipline, termination and related appeals, and overall legal and ethical compliance regarding employment issues. She is a board member of Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio, which enriches the lives of children and promotes creative learning by uniting arts and education; as well as a volunteer with the 3Rs program of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.
Ms. Simmons received her B.A. from Cleveland State University in 2004, and her J.D. from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2008.
