Hahn Loeser Expands its Intellectual Property Practice Group in Chicago

Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP is pleased to announce the addition of John D. Cravero, Ph.D. as an of counsel attorney to the firm’s Chicago office. Dr. Cravero is a licensed patent attorney that joins the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Dr. Cravero will focus primarily on drafting, prosecuting and managing patents and patent portfolios in the United States as well as globally.

In his practice, Dr. Cravero has technical expertise in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, animal models and material science. He focuses his patent work in the areas of life sciences, biotechnology, biologics, antibody-drug conjugates, diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. Dr. Cravero also conducts intellectual property work outside of patent prosecution matters, including assisting with litigation, licensing and trademark prosecution.

Before joining Hahn Loeser, Dr. Cravero served as an associate at McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff, LLP where he prepared and prosecuted National Stage and PCT patent applications. Dr. Cravero also managed and advised clients with global patent portfolios as well as prepared invalidity, patentability and non-infringement opinions. Dr. Cravero has drafted briefs to both the Supreme Court of the United States of America and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and has drafted briefs to the Patent Trials and Appeal Board in relation to inter partes examinations and interference proceedings.

Dr. Cravero earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law and his Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from Wake Forest University, where he researched cell signaling pathways of chondrocytes. As a post-doctoral researcher at Northwestern University, Dr. Cravero focused on pancreatic cancer studying Kras mouse models to discover that Cox-2 expression in EL-positive cells induces aberrant duct development.

With his research background and extensive experience as a patent attorney, Dr. Cravero regularly writes on intellectual property issues relating to life science. He earned Top Author by JD Supra Readers’ Choice Awards in 2018.
