Bridging the Gap: Rethinking Leadership, Ownership and the Future of the Firm

Gabe P. Wright

Hahn Loeser Partner Gabe Wright participated in a roundtable discussion at the Alliott Global Alliance North American Leadership Conference discussing the generational perceptions of leadership and ownership in law firms and accounting firms and bridging the gap between generations.

Gabe was joined on the panel by Valerie Menard (HNA), Kerri Berry, (Linkenheimer), DJ Elliott (Grant Bennett Associates) and Jesse Brodlieb (Wildeboer Dellelce).

Many accounting and law firms are facing a widening gap between the leadership mindset that built the firm and the one required to sustain its future. Traditional models of leadership and ownership — the very structures that once drove firm success — are being tested by a rapidly changing workforce, evolving client expectations, and new demands for agility and innovation. Closing that gap means rethinking what it means to lead, to own, and to build a firm that can thrive in a new era of professional services.

Attendees were given insight on how to:

  • Redefine ownership and accountability beyond equity and hierarchy.
  • Build cultures that attract and grow the next generation of partners and leaders.
  • Align leadership practices with the evolving expectations of clients, employees, and the marketplace.
  • Identify the cultural and structural barriers that prevent firms from evolving.
  • Learn new models of shared leadership and ownership that drive growth and retention.
  • Explore strategies for developing leaders who think—and act—like firm owners.
  • Gain a roadmap for future-proofing their firm’s leadership and talent strategy.
