On December 8, 2010, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced the implementation of an Extended Missing Parts Pilot Program which will effectively provide a twelve-month extension to the existing twelve-month provisional application period. This pilot program is intended to provide applicants with additional time to find financial assistance, evaluate the worth of a product in the marketplace, and allow further development of the invention for potential commercialization.
